Rukiga, Uganda – In a closely contested National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election held on July 24, 2025, Mutebi Saimon emerged victorious in the race for the Rukiga District LC.V Chairperson position.

The results, officially declared by Yaryakumanyi Selubowa Twah, the NRM Electoral Commission Returning Officer for Rukiga District, revealed that a total of 45,371 votes were cast.

Mutebi secured 20,266 votes (44.7% of the total), giving him a significant lead over his closest competitors.

Asiimwe Jackson came in second with 10,380 votes (22.9%), followed by Atusasire Edmand with 8,757 votes (19.3%). Niwandida Samuel received 4,772 votes (10.5%), while Nelson Atwongirwe trailed with 1,178 votes (2.6%).

After being declared the winner, Mutebi Saimon told reporters he was prepared to take on the responsibility of serving all constituents without discrimination or favoritism.

“This election was fiercely competitive, reflecting the democratic spirit of our people. The voters have made their choice clear, and I accept this mandate with humility. I pledge to be a leader for all – serving every citizen of Rukiga District with equal dedication, fairness, and integrity, as my solemn duty requires,” Mutebi said.

He acknowledged initial challenges in the electoral process but expressed gratitude to supporters who contributed to his victory through votes and campaigning.

The official results, announced at midnight on July 25, 2025, also confirmed several political newcomers among the winners of district council seats across various local government positions.

– Hon. Mable Size (Muhanga Town Council)

– Hon. Allen Tumwijukye (Bukinda Sub County) –

Hon. Anyogire Patience (Mparo Town Council)

Direct Elected LC V NRM Councilors:

– Hon. Nansasira Stuart (Bukinda Sub County)

– Hon. Ampumuza Elie (Kamwezi Sub County)

– Hon. Niwagaba Jorume (Kashabya Sub County)

– Hon. Bale Amedi (Mporo Town Council)

– Hon. Tukesiga Adah (Muhanga Town Council)

– Hon. Munigamukama Linus (Rwamucucu Sub County) .

Before announcing the results, Returning Officer Yaryakumanyi Selubowa confirmed receiving three complaints from candidates, all of which were forwarded to the NRM Secretariat for resolution.

The election of these NRM flag bearers marks a pivotal development in Rukiga District’s political landscape, with implications for the coming months.
