Rubanda, Uganda – Rubanda District has once again been hit by a tragic road accident, claiming one life and leaving another fighting for their life.
The incident occurred on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at 3:00 pm in Mugwarubale village, Rubanda town council, along the Kabale-Kisoro route.
The deceased has been identified as Akwankwasa Brain, a 38-year-old resident of Kabirizi Rubanda town council, who was a passenger on a motorcycle (Bajaji Boxer UMA 678AX) that was involved in a collision with a trailer (UBN 553L/UBF 738X).
The motorcycle rider, whose identity has not been disclosed, was rushed to a nearby health center for medical treatment.
According to the police, the motorcycle rider was coming from Kabale heading to Rubanda when he failed to negotiate a sharp corner while speeding, applied brakes abruptly, causing the motorcycle to swerve and throw the passenger into the tires of the oncoming trailer, resulting in his instant death.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that the scene was promptly responded to and documented.
“It’s alleged the motorcycle rider, coming from Kabale heading to Rubanda, failed to negotiate a sharp corner while speeding, applied brakes abruptly, causing the motorcycle to swerve and throw the passenger into the tires of an oncoming trailer, killing the passenger on the spot and leaving the rider injured,” Maate said.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Muko Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination, while the trailer and motorcycle were towed to Rubanda Police Station pending inspection.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident, as it highlights the devastating consequences of excessive speed and reckless driving, which have been linked to numerous accidents in the region.
