Kampala, Uganda – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa, has held a strategic meeting with the Mines Department to address key challenges affecting Uganda’s mineral licensing processes.

The meeting, convened on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Ministry chamber, was aimed at strengthening Uganda’s mineral governance by prioritizing transparency, accountability, and efficiency.

During the meeting, Minister Nankabirwa emphasized her commitment to streamlining the mineral licensing system, unlocking Uganda’s vast mining potential.

She highlighted the need to tackle bottlenecks in the approval process, enhance staff capacity, and create a more responsive and investor-friendly framework.

The discussions with the Mines Department focused on identifying and resolving challenges hindering the mineral licensing process.

By addressing these issues, the Ministry aims to create a more efficient and effective system that attracts investors and promotes sustainable mineral development.

The meeting marks a significant step towards achieving a more transparent, accountable, and efficient mineral governance system in Uganda.
