Kasese, Uganda – Kasese Police is currently holding in custody a 45-year-old man on charges of illegal entry into Queen Elizabeth National Park, a protected area in Kasese.

The suspect, identified as Timbisimirwa Deogratius, a Munyankole, was arrested on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 3 pm within the park and was found with a fishing basket.

According to SP Nelson Tumushime, Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, the suspect is being held at Kasese Central Police Station (CPS) and is charged with illegal entry into a protected area under Section 30 of the Uganda Wildlife Act.

“The suspect was arrested on April 30, 2025, at 3 pm with a fishing basket in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kasese, and charged with illegal entry into a protected area under Section 30 of the Uganda Wildlife Act. Investigations are ongoing,” said SP Nelson Tumushime.

The arrest, currently under investigation, highlights the ongoing efforts by authorities to protect Uganda’s wildlife and natural resources from illegal activities.

The Uganda Wildlife Act provides a framework for conservation and management of wildlife, and those found guilty of violating its provisions face penalties.
