Kabale, Uganda – The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF) has dispatched 19,200 doses of anthrax vaccine to Kabale District in response to a suspected outbreak.

The district has reported five cases of anthrax, with patients currently admitted and isolated at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.

Sources indicate that signs related to anthrax have been reported in the two sub-counties of Kyanamira and Buhara within Kabale district.

Samples were then collected from the victims and animals and sent to laboratories in Kampala for examination.

Anthrax vaccines in Kabale district were received by a team including the Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS), District Production Officer (DPO), Senior Veterinary Officer.

Others are the representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), with the vaccine expected to inoculate all healthy animals.
