Breaking news – Veteran journalist Prosper Twebaze has been declared the NRM flag bearer for Bushenyi District LCV Chairperson, defeating incumbent Jaffari Basajjabalaba in a landslide primary victory.

Twebaze secured a landslide victory with 66,101 votes, representing 86.2% of the total ballots cast, decisively outpacing Basajjabalaba’s 10,597 votes, which garnered 13.8% of the vote share.

The resounding win signals a dramatic shift in voter sentiment, with Twebaze leveraging his media background to campaign on transparency and service delivery reforms.

Basajjabalaba, the current chairman, conceded amid celebrations by Twebaze’s supporters who called the outcome a “mandate for change.”

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission officially confirmed the results, subject to the receipt and resolution of any formal petitions or disputes that may arise within the designated timeframe.

Twebaze will now face opposition candidates in the 2026 general elections, where his victory is widely anticipated in this NRM stronghold.
