Kabale, Uganda – Angry residents of Maziba sub-county in Kabale district have descended on the home of a teacher at Maziba Primary School and set it on fire.

The school teacher, only known as Monday, is being accused of sending demons that allegedly attacked pupils, resulting in the school’s closure.

The attack occurred on Monday, June 9, 2025, during a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting at the school, where stakeholders, including local leaders and security officials, had gathered to discuss the issue.

However, as the meeting progressed, a group of angry community members took matters into their own hands and descended on the teacher’s property, burning his houses, killing his cattle, and destroying his banana plantation.

Witnesses confirmed that the situation escalated when pupils began acting strangely during the meeting, fueling the anger and frustration of the parents.

According to the Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, despite efforts to control the crowd, the mob proceeded to attack the teacher’s property, causing significant damage.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kabale, accompanied by police and local leaders, rushed to the scene and confirmed the destruction.

One permanent and two semi-permanent houses were damaged and burnt, pigs and sheep were slaughtered, and a banana plantation was destroyed.

ASP Maate added that the police have commenced investigations into the matter, and some ring leaders have been identified, with an assurance that action would be taken against all those involved in the attack.

“We are taking this matter very seriously. Inquiries have commenced, and action will accordingly be taken against all those involved in committing offenses when relevant offices were in a meeting trying to get a lasting solution to address the same problem.” Maate said.

The police are working to apprehend those responsible for the attack, with the community awaiting justice and a resolution to the matter as the investigation continues.
