KAMPALA, UGANDA<\/strong> – Police in Old Kampala Division have reported significant progress in the investigation of a violent aggravated robbery, successfully recovering 105 million Ugandan Shillings of the 242 million that was stolen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports indicate that on August 22, 2025, a group of assailants armed with pangas arrived on five motorcycles and intercepted a city hardware accountant in the Kakeka Zone of Rubaga Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accountant was robbed of 242 million Ugandan Shillings while transporting the money to the bank, but fortunately, neither he nor his motorcycle rider was physically injured in the attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigire, confirmed that through swift, intelligence-led operations, detectives analyzed CCTV footage and pursued several leads, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The individuals now charged in connection with the crime are Bakunda Steven, also known as Kevin; Atwine Robert Kiiza, alias Mzee Lubuto; Andebuni Brian, alias Junior Black; Musuza Raymond, alias Caesar; Ssali Andrew, alias Ande Swag; Kanyerezi Stanley; Nsubuga Andrew; and Aboth Shivan Alecho, who has been charged as an accessory after the fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owoyesigire added that police operations led to the recovery of 105 million Ugandan Shillings, a motorcycle believed to have been purchased with the robbery’s proceeds, and a laptop bag containing the victim’s store vouchers and receipts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The complainant positively identified the recovered items. The suspects have been charged with Aggravated Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Being Accessories After the Fact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Owoyesigire added that authorities are continuing to investigate to locate accomplices still at large. Police have reassured the public that such violent crimes will be thoroughly pursued and commended their officers for the dedicated work on the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The eight accused appeared before the Mwanga II Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court on Thursday, September 11th, 2025, to face formal charges in connection with the robbery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
