KAMPALA – <\/strong>The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has unveiled plans for the commencement of its nationwide local leadership structure formation, signaling a significant step toward its long-term ambition of registering as a fully-fledged political party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development was revealed by the PLU’s Chief Communication Officer for the Kigezi Chapter, Dugu Emanuel Twinamasiko, following a productive meeting with the organization’s Director of Mobilization, Hon. Michael Mawanda, at his office in Nakasero, Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading a delegation of 22 university chapter student leaders, Twinamasiko stressed that expediting grassroots structure formation is critical to averting the political sabotage and organizational chaos that have historically undermined other movements in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized the need to empower trusted local mobilizers who can anchor the PLU deeply within communities, declaring that the time for decisive action has arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The quick formation of these grassroots groups is very important to stop political sabotage and confusion. These problems have affected other political groups in Uganda before. We must empower trusted people to mobilize at the local level so that the PLU can grow strong roots in our communities,” said Twinamasiko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hillary, the PLU chapter students leader at Mengo Hospital Training School, proposed that structural formation be scheduled during school holidays to allow maximum participation of the students at the Local Council level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further argued that holiday timing would remove barriers for student leaders, ensuring they can fully engage in building the movement’s grassroots foundation without conflicting with academic commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We must align our structural processes with the academic calendar. Scheduling elections during holidays will ensure that student leaders, who are already engaged at the LC level, can fully participate without sacrificing their studies,” Hillary remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruth Nansasira, the PLU chapter students leader at Mulago Health Institute, emphasized the urgent need for gender balance in the distribution of leadership posts and opportunities across all levels of the new structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gender balance is not a slogan; it is a necessity for any movement that claims to represent all Ugandans. We cannot build genuine grassroots structures if women and other marginalized groups are left out of decision-making positions at every level,” Nansasira asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nansasira further called upon the PLU founder and patron, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Chief of Defence Forces, to personally officiate the launch of the national structures once the groundwork is fully laid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PLU Director of Mobilization, Hon. Michael Mawanda, confirmed that mobilization efforts have been strategically paced following the recent electoral season, with the creation of robust local structures now taking center stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that establishing these grassroots frameworks is the foundational requirement for the PLU to evolve into a registered political party capable of contesting future general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The establishment of these structures is not just about organization; it is the mechanical process that will make us fit to register as a political party,” Mawanda remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
