NTUNGAMO – <\/strong>Ntungamo District Local Government has announced a crackdown on illegal structures and street vending in the towns of Kafunjo, Mirama, and Sofia, effective by the end of April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development was announced in an official statement dated April 15, 2026, signed by Town Clerk Atuhaire Nelson, who declared an enforcement exercise aimed at restoring order in the trading environment across the towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The enforcement targets unauthorized commercial activities that have for years choked Kafunjo, Mirama, and Sofia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities say the crackdown is long overdue, citing rampant disregard for planning laws, public health hazards, and growing traffic congestion caused by haphazard trading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the notice, the enforcement will result in the immediate removal of wooden kiosks and temporary structures lining major roads , as well as merchandise displayed outside formal shop premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The enforcement will also target illegal permanent and semi-permanent structures , and all street vendors operating without valid trading permits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise is being carried out under the legal framework of the Local Government Act, the Public Health Act, the Physical Planning Act 2010, and the Trade and Licensing Act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chairperson of the Traders Association has been urged to inform all traders and vendors about the upcoming exercise before 30th April 2026 to avoid inconveniences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities say the move will create a safer, regulated business environment and improve physical planning in the towns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
