{"id":11038,"date":"2026-04-14T13:56:34","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T13:56:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/?p=11038"},"modified":"2026-04-14T14:11:33","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T14:11:33","slug":"kabale-university-law-symposium-urges-digital-literacy-for-modern-legal-practice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/14\/kabale-university-law-symposium-urges-digital-literacy-for-modern-legal-practice\/","title":{"rendered":"Kabale University Law Symposium Urges Digital Literacy for Modern Legal Practice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KABALE. <strong>Law students have been urged to acquire digital skills and prepare to adapt to the evolving legal landscape, now increasingly supported by new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The call was made by Lady Justice Bareebe Rosemary Ngabirano, the Mukono High Court Resident Judge, who officiated as the Chief Guest at the 2nd Kabale University Law Symposium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, organized under the theme \u201cInnovation and the Future of Legal Practice,\u201d brought together law students, lecturers , advocates, and other professionals to discuss emerging trends and transformations shaping the legal profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"807\" height=\"780\" src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496086.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496086.jpg 807w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496086-300x290.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496086-768x742.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 807px) 100vw, 807px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Justice Bareebe challenged law students to develop the necessary digital skills that will enable them to practice law effectively in an era dominated by technological advancements, especially artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe legal practice has changed, and it\u2019s important for students to understand that they can no longer operate in the old way. They need to embrace technology and leverage it to their advantage,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lady Justice Bareebe who holds a Master of Laws, a Master of Business Administration, and with over 27 years of experience in legal practice, also urged practicing judicial officers to continue guiding law students and to accommodate new methods of legal practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe (the seniors) must recognize that these younger lawyers are coming from a world of innovation, especially the internet. You\u2019ve heard of Gen Z. They all need guidance and an attitude shift to adapt to the modern legal environment,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CUE IN&#8230; JUSTICE BAREEBE ON LAW STUDENTS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/JUSTICE-BAREEBE-ON-LAW-STUDENTS-.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>ASP Arnold Ndagije, the Kigezi Region Police Officer in Charge of Legal and Human Rights, commended Kabale University for its contributions to academia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"707\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496082.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11041\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496082.jpg 707w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002496082-300x289.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 707px) 100vw, 707px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted that although the law faculty was established recently, students had already demonstrated remarkable eagerness to learn and contribute to solving societal issues. ASP Ndagije also echoed Justice Bareebe\u2019s call for students to acquire innovative digital skills during their studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CUE IN&#8230;ASP NDAGIJE.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/ASP-NDAGIJE.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Charlotte Kabaseke, Dean of Kabale University\u2019s Law Faculty, explained that the symposium is part of the institution\u2019s annual career development programs, in which they regularly invite senior professionals to engage with students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor law students, participation in such symposiums offers a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of contemporary legal developments, enhance analytical and critical thinking skills, and gain practical insights from experienced practitioners. It also exposes them to real-world perspectives beyond the classroom,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CUE IN&#8230; DR. KABASEKE ON SYMPOSIUM.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/DR.-KABASEKE-ON-SYMPOSIUM-.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kabale University officially inaugurated its Faculty of Law on May 22, 2024, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to expand access to quality and affordable education, especially following its establishment as a public university in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2025, Kabale University was accredited by the Law Council of Uganda and the Higher Council for Education to teach law, becoming one of only 19 universities in the country with such accreditation as of April 2026. The faculty aims to bridge the gap between law and society by offering a Bachelor of Laws (LLB), one of the most dynamic academic programs at the Southwestern Uganda-based institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KABALE.
