{"id":10961,"date":"2026-04-08T17:49:30","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T17:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/?p=10961"},"modified":"2026-04-08T17:54:40","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T17:54:40","slug":"students-urged-to-leverage-voluntary-working-to-overcome-the-global-unemployment-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/08\/students-urged-to-leverage-voluntary-working-to-overcome-the-global-unemployment-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"Students\u00a0 Urged to Leverage\u00a0Voluntary Work to overcome the Global Unemployment Crisis."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>KABALE.<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Students&nbsp; have been advised to seize every available opportunity for voluntary work to acquire experience&nbsp;and&nbsp;essential skills&nbsp;that&nbsp;are crucial for securing substantive&nbsp;jobs&nbsp;amid today&#8217;s employment crisis.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The call was made by Mr. Amon Mukamasiimwe, Head of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department at Uganda Christian University\u2019s&nbsp;Bishop Barham College,&nbsp;Kabale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Mukamasiimwe delivered the keynote address at a one-day Career Guidance Seminar organized by Hearing Heart, a Kabale District-based Christian ministry that focuses on youth&nbsp;empowerment&nbsp;&nbsp;through sports, music talent nurturing, career&nbsp;development,&nbsp;and spiritual guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event, hosted by the Uganda National Institute for Teacher Education (UNITE), formerly National Teachers College, Kabale, attracted numerous youths from various universities and other&nbsp; tertiary institutions in the district . The event was also attended by&nbsp;secondary students in the Advanced Level from selected schools in Kabale Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002461190-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10969\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002461190-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002461190-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002461190-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1002461190.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlighting the importance of preparation for a&nbsp;competitive&nbsp;job market, Mr. Mukamasiimwe urged students in higher institutions to actively seek volunteer opportunities that will help them build relevant skills and experience,&nbsp;even before completing their studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe job market today is highly competitive, but those with skills and experience hold a distinct advantage over others. Therefore, before and after graduation, don\u2019t wait for jobs. If immediate employment isn\u2019t available, take advantage of opportunities to offer voluntary services,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CUE IN.. AMON ON VOLUNTEERING<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/AMON-ON-SKILLS-AND-EXPERIENCE-2-2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>He further encouraged students&nbsp; to leverage social media to showcase their skills and technical abilities instead of using the&nbsp;online platforms&nbsp;solely for gossip and entertainment. Mr. Mukamasiimwe emphasized that students&nbsp; should present themselves as critical thinkers and problem-solvers to potential employers, rather than as burdens on the workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe world is looking for critical thinkers,&nbsp;employees who not only identify problems but also propose solutions,\u201d he stated. He added that demonstrating this mindset during job applications and interviews is vital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CUE IN&#8230;AMON ON CRITICAL THINKING&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-audio\"><audio controls src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/AMON-ON-CRITICAL-THINKING2.mp3\"><\/audio><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional career guidance tips shared with students included selecting A \u2018level subject combinations aligned with desired university courses, developing digital skills, maintaining honesty and integrity, and cultivating leadership qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the event, Hearing Heart Director, Mr.&nbsp;Arnold Arinaitwe explained that the seminar was motivated by the need to equip students with knowledge and wisdom to navigate the ongoing&nbsp;global&nbsp;unemployment crisis, which has left many youths frustrated despite investing considerable time and family resources into their education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He referenced the biblical story of Solomon\u2019s encounter with God in 1 Kings 3:9, where the third King of Israel requested wisdom. Presented with the chance to ask for anything, Solomon asked God for a discerning heart to distinguish right from wrong while ruling Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representing&nbsp;Dean of&nbsp;UNITE Kabale Campus,&nbsp;the&nbsp;Chief Librarian Mr. Patrick Katusabe expressed gratitude to the organizers for choosing the institution as the venue for the seminar. He noted that the event was timely, as UNITE&nbsp;was&nbsp;preparing to graduate its first cohort of Bachelor\u2019s degree students by 2028 or 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of early 2026, the global youth unemployment rate (aged 15\u201324) is approximately 12.4%, according to the International Labour Organization&#8217;s (ILO) Employment and Social Trends 2026 report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a slight increase from previous projections, with about 260 million young people worldwide not employed.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Uganda, the youth unemployment rate&nbsp;is&nbsp;at 12.3 percent according to the 2024 National Census.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further reports indicate that Uganda churns out over 700,000 new people into the labor market annually, but only about 90,000 secure formal employment,
