{"id":10642,"date":"2026-03-19T17:31:03","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T17:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/?p=10642"},"modified":"2026-03-19T19:26:45","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T19:26:45","slug":"ugandan-tech-experts-advocate-for-policy-regulate-use-of-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/19\/ugandan-tech-experts-advocate-for-policy-regulate-use-of-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"Ugandan Tech Experts Advocate for Policy to Regulate Use of AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>KABALE &#8211; <\/strong>A section of Information and Computer Technology experts has urged the Ugandan government to develop a comprehensive national policy regulating the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to mitigate the rising cyber crimes associated with the evolving landscape of digital technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The appeal was made today during a stakeholder consultation focused on Uganda\u2019s National Emerging Technologies Strategy, held at Kabale University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Organized by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance in collaboration with the National Information Technology Authority-Uganda (NITA-U), the consultations aim to inform the creation of a policy framework that will guide the adoption, governance, and responsible use of emerging digital technologies across various sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"678\" src=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/DSC_3046-1024x678.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/DSC_3046-1024x678.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/DSC_3046-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/DSC_3046-768x509.jpg 768w, https:\/\/westernpearlreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/DSC_3046.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prof. Businge Phelix Mbabazi, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Library, and Information Science at Kabale University, highlighted that academic institutions are struggling to develop cohesive policies aimed at regulating AI, especially regarding plagiarism detection and manipulation of exam scores. He emphasized that it is high time for the government to establish a national policy to streamline the use of AI technologies uniformly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCurrently, some institutions have no policies in place, while others are still struggling to formulate them. A national policy could make this process much easier,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CUE IN\u2026PROF. The process, which began in Kampala, will continue with upcoming engagements in Gulu and Soroti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese forums aim to gather sector-specific insights, identify opportunities and challenges, and generate policy recommendations to shape the national strategy,\u201d he added<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CUE Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, underscored Uganda\u2019s progress in digital transformation, including the development of a national data strategy to support data-driven technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe deliberately strengthened the fundamentals, beginning with a national data strategy that will guide
