RUBANDA – Women under the Bakayara Tutekatekyere Nyensakare group in Rubanda District have reported household improvement after acquiring 80 piglets, one per member, using savings from their collective soap-making enterprise.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The achievement was announced by chairperson Tumukunde Annet while receiving a donated soap-making machine from the Common Ground Project, an NGO, at their premises in Kyokyezo Parish, Nyamweru Sub-county.
Tumukunde told this reporter that the group acquired soap-making skills from Rubanda District Woman MP Hon. Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda in 2023, before she was elected to Parliament.
She said the women no longer buy soap from shops, as they now produce their own, pack it for their school-going children, and meet household needs with money earned from selling it.
“We got soap-making skills from Hon. Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda in 2023, before she became MP. We no longer buy soap from shops because we make our own. We pack for our children when they are returning to school after holidays, and earn money for home needs and school fees,” Tumukunde said.

Tumukunde noted that Hon. Ninsiima also gave them seed capital of Shs 300,000, which has grown to Shs 700,000, enabling them to sell bar soap across the sub-county and reinvest in other income-generating activities.
Representing the district Woman MP Hon. Ninsiima Evelyn Kikafunda at the function, Francine Turyazayo lauded the women for embracing the sustainable development initiative championed by the Rubanda Woman Legislator.
Turyazayo said what the women have achieved clearly proves that the project is not just for show but is genuinely changing lives and impacting the community in a real way.

She added that the Rubanda district woman member of Parliament, Hon. Evelyn Kikafunda, is determined to see all women groups empowered, challenging the Kyokyezo group to safeguard their new soap-making machine.
Aiden Amumpaire, Consultant Field Officer at Agriterra Uganda under the Common Ground Project, said the new machine will produce at least 200 bars of soap every month, boosting the group’s output.
She challenged the women under the Bakayara Tutekatekyere Nyensakare group to maintain the machine properly and put it to good use to ensure it serves them for many years.

The handover ceremony was marked with excitement and optimism, as members expressed confidence that their enterprise would continue to transform their households and the wider community.
