KASESE – The four-year-old girl has died in a suspected murder by poisoning in Kasese District, following a disturbing chain of events that has left the community in shock and two people in custody.

Reliable sources allege that last week, Mumbere Lodrick, 10, the deceased’s stepbrother, while returning from his grandparents’ home in Kiyenge village within Kitabu sub-county, was handed a bottle of Lucky Juice by his aunt, Mbabazi Mary, the sister to the deceased’s mother.
The boy was reportedly instructed to deliver the juice specifically to the deceased and warned not to taste it. He was also given one thousand shillings to buy his own Lucky Juice from Kiburara trading centre.
On Monday, September 21st, 2026, at about 10:00 am, Lodrick gave the bottle of juice to the deceased as directed, in the absence of his stepmother and father. After drinking it, the young girl reportedly threw the empty bottle into a dustbin and went to sleep.
The mother returned home to find the girl unresponsive, tried to wake her, and then rushed her to Kagando Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The body was later taken to Muhokya sub-county for burial.
The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that the manner of the child’s death raised suspicion, prompting the area chairperson to report the incident to Kiburara Police Station.
Maate noted that Mary, the deceased’s aunt, and Lodrick, her stepbrother, were arrested for questioning, while police examined and documented the scene and recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
The body of the deceased was retrieved from home in Muhokya sub-county, where it had been taken for burial, and conveyed to Bwera Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, the police have since recovered the key exhibits, including the empty bottle and samples of vomit, and submitted them for toxicological analysis to establish the cause of the minor’s death.
The police spokesperson has since confirmed that inquiries into the matter are still ongoing, and no conclusions have yet been drawn as the analysis of exhibits continues.
