The deceased has been identified as Mbusa Michael, 24, a pupil at Nyakahya Primary School and resident of Kyambogho Cell, who was allegedly strangled to death on Monday by unknown assailants, who then threw his lifeless body into the river.

Sources reveal that the deceased had been living with his brother-in-law, Masereka Deogratious, at Kyambogho Cell when he went missing from home at about 6:00 PM, and despite frantic searches throughout the night, no trace could be found.

The grim discovery was made on Tuesday, August 12, 2026, when police received information about an unidentified body floating in River Mpondwe within Kyambogho Cell, bringing the desperate search to a tragic end.

The Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they conducted a thorough examination and documentation of the area.

The body was taken to Bwera Mortuary for a postmortem examination, which revealed that the deceased had been strangled before being dumped in the water, confirming that his death was a deliberate murder and not an accident.

Maate also confirmed that territorial police in Bwera Division are actively investigating the incident, with inquiries ongoing as they work tirelessly to identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.

“Territorial Police in Bwera Division are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Our inquiries are still ongoing, and we are making concerted efforts to identify and apprehend those involved so that they may be brought to justice,” stated Maate.

Police have called upon the local community to volunteer any information that could aid the investigation, emphasizing that even the smallest detail may prove vital in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
