The fatal crash occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Namumira–Bukasa Village, Kyetume Parish, Nakisunga Sub-county, along the busy Katosi Road in Mukono District.

The accident involved a train and a bus transporting students from Mwebaze High School, Kakiri, who were travelling to Jinja District for an educational trip.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala confirmed to the press that the impact of the collision left several students with injuries of varying degrees.

She added that the accident prompted an immediate and coordinated rescue operation involving police officers working hand-in-hand with other emergency responders, who swiftly swung into action to evacuate the wounded.

The injured students were rushed to Mukono General Referral Hospital and other nearby health facilities, where they are currently receiving urgent medical attention.

The condition of the injured has not yet been officially released, but authorities have confirmed that all efforts are being made to ensure they receive the best possible care.

“We have secured the scene and commenced thorough investigations to establish the exact cause and circumstances surrounding this unfortunate crash,” stated SP Kawala.

Police have since confirmed they are working to piece together the events that led to the collision, with preliminary inquiries focusing on visibility, signal compliance, and the sequence of events at the railway crossing.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the school community, with parents and guardians rushing to hospitals to check on their children.

Police have appealed to the public for calm and have promised to release further updates as more verified information becomes available.
