TORORO – The Speaker of the 12th Parliament, Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth, has dismissed rumors of witchcraft haunting the country’s legislature, stating that his trust in God is far greater than any supernatural threat.

The Speaker made these remarks while addressing Christians at St. Mark Church of Uganda in his West Budama Central Constituency, where he directly confronted long-standing folklore about witchcraft in Uganda’s political circles.

He acknowledged widespread claims that politicians consult traditional healers and use charms for influence, but declared his faith in a higher power that he believes is above witchcraft.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth warned anyone planning to use juju against him that such efforts had failed before and would fail again, asserting that God fights his battles.

“I have heard the whispers and the rumors about witchcraft in Parliament, and I know that many people are talking about it. But I want Ugandans to know that I serve a God who is far above any dark force or charm that anyone could ever use against me. Those who are consulting traditional healers and clutching their juju know that their efforts have failed before and they will fail again,” Speaker Oboth-Oboth remarked.

He appealed to Ugandans for prayers and light-heartedly described himself as “pregnant with change,” emphasizing that his leadership must leave a lasting mark on Parliament and the nation.

“The God that I believe in cannot make a woman pregnant and fail to give her the strength to push the baby. So I am now pregnant with some changes for Parliament. Pray that these things come to pass so that Parliament will have a lasting impact,” Oboth-Oboth said.

The Speaker pledged that his tenure would be remembered for advancing development through roads and hospitals, promising a corruption-free Parliament and a full reset to restore public trust.

Allegations of witchcraft and poisoning within Uganda’s Parliament are nothing new, with stories repeatedly surfacing about lawmakers fearing supernatural attacks and political poisoning over the years.

The fear has grown so palpable in past Parliaments that many MPs reportedly avoided eating or drinking from the Parliament canteen, especially during periods of heightened political tension.

Speaker Oboth-Oboth’s bold stance against these persistent rumors comes as he urges Ugandans to focus on governance and calls on his Bukedi constituents to prioritize service delivery over political distractions.
