KAMPALA – Police operatives in Nagalama have apprehended a suspect believed to be the mastermind behind a string of motorcycle robberies that have terrorised boda boda riders in Mukono District.

Kavuma’s calculated scheme unraveled as preliminary investigations revealed a chilling modus operandi behind multiple charges tied to brazen robberies that have left the boda boda community on edge.
Sources indicate that Kyeyune would meticulously plan his attacks by travelling to areas outside Kasawo, where he would pose as an unsuspecting passenger seeking transportation back to the village.
Once a boda boda rider accepted the fare, the suspect would cunningly direct the unsuspecting driver to isolated locations within Kakira Village, specifically targeting the vast and remote sugarcane plantations that dot the landscape.
Allegations indicate that in these desolate areas, far from prying eyes and immediate help, he would allegedly rob the riders of their motorcycles, leaving them stranded and traumatised.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said that following the arrest, police investigators acted swiftly, conducting a thorough search of the suspect’s residence.
Among the items recovered were housebreaking implements, including metal bars, cutters, and pangas, alongside motorcycle spare parts and other tools commonly linked to burglary and vehicle theft.
Investigators also seized a motorcycle number plate, UGB 722Q, believed to belong to an unidentified stolen motorcycle, as well as helmets and metal materials suspected of being used to fabricate forged number plates.
Two AK-47 rifle cartridges were also discovered, raising serious concerns about the suspect’s possible access to illegal firearms, while a cache of smartphones, inner tubes, jackets, and other assorted items may tie him to multiple crime scenes.
Two driving permits were also recovered and are now being scrutinised for authenticity, while all other exhibits have been meticulously documented and secured to support the ongoing investigations, which police say are progressing steadily.
SP Kawala further confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to be connected to the criminal activities, as police investigations continue.
