This year’s address arrives at a critical juncture, as the nation wrestles with an escalation of the deadly Ebola virus disease resurging in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
The outbreak’s proximity has heightened anxieties across Ugandan border districts, with health officials on high alert to prevent cross-border transmission.
The President speaks to a country entering a new political chapter, as the address follows the swearing-in of the President and members of the 12th Parliament in previous weeks, officially launching the 2026–2031 regime.
The Nation Address is a constitutional requirement under Article 101(1) of Uganda’s Constitution, which mandates the President to speak on the state of the nation at the beginning of each parliamentary session.
The address sets the agenda and delivers a report card, as the President uses this platform to report on the economy, security, health, and infrastructure, set new priorities, and reaffirm core goals.
It also signals unity and accountability by bringing together all key pillars of the state, Parliament, the Judiciary, the Cabinet, diplomats, security chiefs, and traditional leaders, under one roof.
