KAMPALA – SP Nelson Tumushime has been named the new Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi sub-region, replacing SP Elly Maate, who has been transferred to the Rwenzori East Regional Police command in the same role.

The announcement also indicated that SP Tumuhairwe Alex has been transferred from OC Station Kisoro to URBS on attachment, while ASP Bikomo Muhangi Charles has moved from OC Station Nagasongola to OC Station Kisoro.
The Uganda Police Force has directed all affected officers to assume duty at their new stations without delay, emphasizing that these changes are aimed at strengthening regional policing and public communication strategies nationwide.
Meanwhile, journalists and members of the public have appreciated the outgoing Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, Elly Maate, for maintaining excellent working relationships with the media and the public.
They added that Maate always issued timely guidelines and safety advisories and consistently urged citizens to desist from mob justice, adhere to road traffic regulations, and maintain peace and order in their communities.
“Maate wasn’t just a police spokesperson; he was a trusted bridge between the badge and the people. Whether on a busy school morning or a festive night, his voice on the radio was a calm guide, urging peace, rejecting mob justice, and reminding us that safety begins with each one of us,” journalists remarked.
They urged the incoming Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, to maintain the same level of openness and cooperation with the media as his predecessor, Elly Maate.
