The individuals in custody have been identified as Arigye Ivan, 20, a resident of Rugarama Kakore; Niwaha Dancan, of Kamuterere Kakore; and Ainamani Justus, of Muyorere Kitawulira.

The three are believed to have conducted the robberies in an incident that took place past midnight on May 21, 2026, at Karukara Market within Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda district.

Reliable sources indicate that the alleged thugs intercepted a truck at the location, cut into the vehicle’s cabin and robbed the occupants of various items before fleeing into the darkness.

The Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, confirmed that the Rubanda District Police Commander, SP Tumwebaze JB, received a distress call about the incident before launching an operation to track the culprits.

Maate added that officers from Hamurwa Police Station were immediately dispatched to the scene, but the thugs had already vanished by the time they arrived.

While patrolling near Hakakondogoro Trading Centre, the team intercepted a group of thugs transporting a suspected stolen calf on a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registered as UEV 958H.

Upon noticing the police, the suspects abandoned the motorcycle and the calf, both of which were recovered and taken to Hamurwa Police Station for safekeeping and further investigation.

The three suspects are now in custody at Hamurwa Police Station and will face charges of theft from a motor vehicle, with the motorcycle and calf held as key exhibits.
