Sources allege that the deceased was attacked while preparing supper in her kitchen, moments after sending her four young grandchildren to the main house to wash their feet before the evening meal.
The assailant(s) struck while the children were separated from their guardian. When the children heard their grandmother screaming for help from the kitchen, they desperately tried to rush to her aid.
However, they discovered that the unknown attacker had brutally outmaneuvered them, bolting the main house door from the outside, trapping them inside as helpless witnesses to the unfolding tragedy.
The children’s frantic alarm drew neighbor Kyomuhendo Joy, who rushed out and confirmed meeting face to face with a fleeing suspect wearing a grey hooded jacket, heading toward a banana plantation.
Meanwhile, Kyomuhendo raised her own alarm, mobilizing other residents who rushed to the scene and managed to force the door open to free the terrified children.
Upon checking the kitchen, residents found Busingye, the deceased, lying in a pool of blood, lifeless, having been hacked several times on the head.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed to this reporter that officers from Muhanga Police Station were notified and responded immediately to the scene.
The Police Surgeon conducted an on-site postmortem. However, authorities face an immediate challenge given that the crime scene was reportedly tampered with prior to their arrival, but the inquiries remain at hand.
The police further urge anyone with information that can lead the police to those involved to volunteer it so that the criminals are brought to book.
