RUBANDA – Police in Rubanda have successfully apprehended multiple suspects, including ex-convicts, from targeted dangerous hideout black spots within Rubanda Town Council.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The arrested individuals have been identified as Namanya Joel, Mucunguzi Anobed, Ahimbisibwe Bruno, Agaba William, Mugisha Erias, and Akankwasa Brian, all of whom have been on the security watch lists.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed to this reporter that the six were tracked in an operation code-named “Operation Clean Sweep,” conducted at night on May 3, 2026, between midnight hours from their hideouts.
The operation was led by the Rubanda District Police Commander (DPC), SP JB Tumwebaze, following intelligence on aggravated robberies by thugs armed with machetes, knives, and stones.
Maate stated that the suspects are alleged to have been waylaying late-night travellers along Rubanda’s dark corridors, robbing them of their valuables, including mobile phones, money, and personal belongings.
“We are tired of people who attack innocent travelers at night with pangas and stones. Last night, we went after them and caught six dangerous suspects. We want the public to know that we shall not stop until every road in Rubanda and the whole of Kigezi is safe. If you are a criminal, you have nowhere to hide,” Maate said.
Recently, Eng. Denis Twesigomwe of Rubanda District Local Government was allegedly robbed on February 2, 2026, at around 3:00 AM while returning from Kampala.
The incident triggered the operation, as the assailants intercepted him and made off with a bag containing a laptop and cash amounting to UGX 4,900,000.
Meanwhile, the victims, including Eng. Twesigomwe and others, have been invited by police to assist in the identification process, as the suspects are currently detained at CPS Rubanda.
Police have further warned that more operations of the same nature will be conducted across the entire Kigezi region to fight the vice of criminality, particularly aggravated robberies and thuggery.
