Kampala – Police have arrested two suspected panga-wielding gang members, recovering an arsenal bag containing sharpened pangas, specialized breaking tools, and suspected stolen phones.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The two suspects, identified as Serwanja Najjib and one Derrick, were apprehended in an operation conducted on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, along Tula Namere Road in Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala, the suspects are believed to be behind a wave of brutal machete attacks and home invasions in Kawempe Division and its surrounding areas.
Kawala stated that an intelligence-led operation was launched following an avalanche of public complaints from residents living in fear of a gang that targeted homes at night with sharpened pangas.
“We conducted the intelligence-led operation after getting numerous complaints about panga-wielding thugs terrorizing residents in Kawempe and surrounding areas, from which we netted these two suspects along Tula Namere Road in Kawempe,” SP Kawala stated.
Upon the arrest of the two, police impounded a motorcycle that the pair was riding, with its number plate UGD 081D deliberately concealed to evade CCTV cameras and police checkpoints.
Police confirmed intensified efforts to apprehend other suspects involved in violent robberies by the so-called panga-wielding gang in the region.
