The suspects, who are in detention cells, were apprehended in connection with the murder of Asiimwe Abias, 57, a resident of Kashenyi Ward and a prominent figure in the local trading community.

Reliable sources allege that the deceased was last seen alive on April 18, 2026, at Kashenyi Trading Centre before he left for a nearby lodge.

He failed to return home, prompting his worried relatives to file a missing person report at Kashenyi Police Station the following day.

The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, told the press that police responded with urgency to conduct an extensive search.

Teaming up with local residents, they discovered a burnt, dismembered body believed to be that of Asiimwe (deceased) on his own rented property, inside a lodge’s cycling compound.

The scene of the crime was examined and relevant exhibits were recovered. The police arrested all the suspects, including the primary lessee, who are all in custody assisting with inquiries.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem examination in accordance with the law as the investigations progress.

“The scene of the crime was thoroughly examined, and relevant exhibits were recovered. The body has been conveyed to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted in accordance with the law,” said SP Tayebwa.

Meanwhile, the police have strongly condemned the brutal and senseless act, assuring the public that a thorough investigation is underway and all responsible will be brought to justice.
