NTUNGAMO – Former Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana has pointed to respect and honour for parents as the true source of blessings and wealth on earth, thus urging children to practice this virtue faithfully.

Rukutana, the former minister and Rushenyi County MP, made these remarks during the burial ceremony of the late Elder Elivaida Batina in Muyenga Kyabukuuju, Rubaare Town Council, Ntungamo District.

The late Elivaida Batina, also known as Omujungu wa Kyabukuuju, was a well-respected elder who passed away at the age of 98. She was the grandmother of Ms. Nyakato Esther, the wife of Mwesigwa Rukutana.

Delivering his condolence speech, Mwesigwa Rukutana expressed heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family, praised God for the life of the late matriarch, and urged the family to remain united in the face of their loss.

He further commended all the children for the care and love they showed their mother during her lifetime, emphasizing that a parent is ever sweet and cherished.

“There is no wealth on earth greater than the blessing of a parent. When you respect and honour your father and mother, you are not just obeying a commandment, you are unlocking the very gates of favour and prosperity. A parent is ever sweet and cherished; never trade their love for pride,” remarked Rukutana.

The children of the late Elivaida, led by Salongo Sonzi and Nanjara, remembered their mother as a hospitable, generous, and dependable woman, qualities they said everyone should strive to emulate.

Sonzi extended his sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all the relatives, friends, and neighbours who stood firmly with the family during the difficult and trying moments of grief and loss.

Meanwhile, the area Member of Parliament for Rushenyi County, Hon. Naome Kabasharira, described the late Elivaida Batina as a pillar in the community.

The legislator implored the general public to embrace hard work rather than waiting to inherit their parents’ property, a practice she warned often results in family conflicts.

The Archdeacon of Rukanda Archdeaconry, Ven. Canon Yokana Nyebikira Mujungu, assisted by Ven. Canon Arthur Twinamatsiko, noted that the late elder fought a good fight while on earth.

The men of God comforted the mourners, saying that whoever dies while believing in Christ shall not suffer eternal death, but instead shall rise again and receive everlasting life in peace and glory.

The late Elder Elivaida Batina gave birth to four children and had a large family of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory.
