KANUNGU, UGANDA – Tragedy have unfolded along the Kihihi-Rukungiri Highway on Wednesday when a motorcycle rider died on the spot in a crash caused by heavy rains in the Kanungu District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Atuhaire Gerald, 32, a resident of Nyakiyaga Cell, Rwanga Ward, in Kihihi Town Council, who succumbed to injuries on the spot after being hit by a speeding Probox vehicle.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at noon around the Kyakatarangyi area. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by poor visibility as a result of heavy rains in the area at the time.
The collision involved a white Toyota Probox (UBP 507E) and a red Haojue motorcycle (UMA 758GW), which was being ridden by the deceased.
Preliminary reports allege that the driver of the Probox, heading from Rukungiri towards Kihihi, lost lane discipline due to poor visibility from the heavy rain and swerved into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a fatal head-on collision.
The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that officers led by the District Traffic Officer (DTO) Kanungu, ASP Nsabiyera Herbert, visited and documented the scene.
He added that the body of the deceased was conveyed to Kihihi Health Centre IV, where it awaits a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
