KABALE, UGANDA – The elected Member of Parliament for Kabale Municipality, Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga, has unveiled an ambitious plan to install solar-powered water systems aimed at pumping water to the municipality’s hilly terrains.

The legislator made the remarks on Saturday while witnessing the grand opening and consecration of St. Steven’s Kitojo Church of Uganda, located in Rutooma Parish, Northern Division.

The ceremony, which also featured a church baptism service, was presided over by the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, and drew a crowd of believers, government officials, and business leaders.

While congratulating the Bagamuhunda family for their dedication in fulfilling a pledge to build the place of worship, Hon. Aja Baryayanga took the opportunity to outline his developmental agenda for the area.

Flanked by his wife, Mrs. Doreen Baryayanga, Hon. Andrew Aja announced the initiation of the Kashenje gravity water scheme renovation, stressing that, like the new church, essential services must be brought closer to the people.

“Just as this family has worked to bring a house of God closer to the people, we must work to bring essential services closer to them,” Hon. Aja emphasized.

He confirmed that the rehabilitated scheme will use solar technology to pump water to the municipality’s higher, harder-to-reach hills, bringing a sustainable water supply directly to families.

This, he noted, aligns with modern solutions to ensure that even residents in elevated areas have access to clean water without the burden of unaffordable energy costs or buying water.

Presiding over the service, Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna reminded the congregation of the lasting impact of faith-driven works.

He reflected on the legacy of the late William Bagamuhunda, who planted a seed by donating the land, a seed his family has since nurtured by building the church.

“People die, but their works remain. The late William Bagamuhunda planted a seed by donating this land, and his family has watered it by building this church. Working for God is a good gesture that comes with many blessings,” Bishop Akanjuna said.

Mr. Conference Bagamuhunda, the head of the Bagamuhunda family, confirmed that the church stands on land donated by his late father, William Bagamuhunda.

He detailed the family’s commitment to ensuring the project was completed, acknowledging the challenges faced during construction and expressing gratitude to all who rendered support.

The newly established St. Steven’s Kitojo Church of Uganda will operate under the oversight of St. James Kijuguta, which is itself under the mother parish of St. Peter’s Cathedral Rugarama.

Hon. Andrew Aja Baryayanga was named one of the Church Godly Parents, alongside Hope Bagamuhunda and Mr. Roger Ole Rutware, solidifying their commitment to the spiritual guidance and growth of the new congregation.
