The apprehended suspects have been identified as Atwine, Mwange, and Namara, who are currently in custody following a meticulous investigation that culminated in a tracked pursuit by a police sniffer dog.

The ordeal began in the early hours of the morning when the victim, local businessman Mbowa Joshua, arrived at his shop in Nansana Gganda to find that it had been broken into.

The unidentified assailants gained entry by cutting through the iron sheets and ceiling board of the establishment before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash and fleeing to an unknown destination.

Mbowa immediately reported the incident to Gganda Police Station and specifically requested the deployment of a specialized K9 unit from Kawaala to help preserve the scene.

A team of police officers arrived at the scene with sniffer dog Pepper, where the well-preserved crime scene allowed the canine to get to work immediately.

With unwavering focus, sniffer dog Pepper picked up a scent at the point of entry and tracked it for approximately one kilometer, leading police directly to a residence in a nearby neighbourhood.

At the residence, the dog zeroed in on the first suspect, Atwine, before indicating the presence of the other two individuals, Mwange and Namara, who investigations later revealed all reside together in the same house.

The subsequent search of the premises was fruitful, yielding critical evidence that included a pair of scissors believed to be the tool used to cut through the shop’s iron sheets, a hammer, and a sum of cash suspected to be the stolen proceeds.

The three suspects remain in custody at Gganda Police Station and are expected to be charged soon, in an operation that underscores the effectiveness of community policing and the crucial role of the K9 unit.
