In Ntungamo District, the incumbent Samuel Mucunguzi Rwakigoba of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has been declared the re-elected LC V Chairperson.

The declaration was made by the District Returning Officer, Mr. Charles Wafula, following a highly competitive poll characterized by a significant increase in registered voters.

Mucunguzi secured a narrow but decisive victory with 84,903 votes (51.19%), edging out his closest rival, independent candidate John Kigungu Kabeho, who garnered 80,465 votes (48.51%).

A late-withdrawn candidate, Mr. Naboth Kasiisi Mpirirwe, still received 503 votes in an election that saw Ntungamo’s registered voters surge to 314,840 across 812 polling stations.

Returning Officer Wafula reported that results from 24 polling stations were cancelled after the number of ballots cast exceeded the number of registered voters at those locations.

The Ntungamo result was part of a broader trend where NRM candidates registered strong performances in several other district chairperson races.

In Kabale District, the returning officer, Ms. Aisha Nansubuga, declared Mr. Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi the Chairperson-elect.

He won convincingly with 44,511 votes, defeating the incumbent, Mr. Nelson Nshangabasheija (27,586 votes), and two other independent contenders.

A landslide victory was recorded in Rubanda District, where the NRM’s Stephen Kasyaba Ampaire was declared the winner by Returning Officer Mr. Medard Nteziyaremye. Kasyaba polled 55,318 votes (74.36%), soundly defeating independent candidate Mr. Julius Twinomujuni Buzaare.

The declaration was witnessed by local dignitaries, including the Rubanda District Woman MP-elect, Hon. Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda, and the State Minister of Finance, Hon. Henry Musasizi Ariganyira.

In Rukiga District, Returning Officer Ms. Rebecca Mbabazi announced a clear NRM victory for flag bearer Mr. Simon Mutebi Rwamagyenda, who was elected with 21,028 votes (54.05%) over rival Mr. Michael Kwarikunda Mbareba.

In Rubirizi District, Hon. Obed Byakureka Agaba was declared the winner by Returning Officer Mr. Nicholas Twinomujuni, securing 27,938 total votes to claim the LC V chairperson seat.
