The announcement was made during a series of grassroots campaigns and mobilization rallies in Kamwezi Sub-County, Rukiga District, where Kanuga addressed an enthusiastic electorate.

Kanuga made a compelling case for unity, urging voters to channel their energy and commitment behind Hon. Kivumba as the candidate best positioned to advance Rukiga’s collective ambitions from 2026 to 2031.

“I urge all supporters to channel all our energies to Hon. Kivumba, the candidate who can advance Rukiga’s ambitions. My unwavering support is with him to ensure our county receives the representation it deserves. Our journey evolves; by uniting behind him, we turn promises of better roads, schools, and healthcare into reality,” Kanuga stated.

Hon. Damson Kivumba used the platform to clarify his political stance, reaffirming his steadfast loyalty to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and dismissing any suggestion of estrangement from the party.

He explained that his decision to run as an independent candidate is a deliberate strategic choice, aimed at serving his constituents more effectively and without constraints.

Kivumba also rallied support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni while sternly warning against voter bribery, encouraging the electorate to reject short-term inducements in favor of sustainable development.

“I warn those trying to buy your conscience: your vote is power, do not sell it cheaply. If offered money, take it, but vote for integrity. Support the President’s vision and vote for me so we can deliver tangible services, starting with the well-being long promised. A bribe ends today, but a bad road tortures you for years,” Kivumba stated.

The alliance between Kanuga and Kivumba marks a pivotal moment in Rukiga’s political landscape, consolidating support around a single candidate focused on service delivery and community advancement.
