RUKIGA, UGANDA – The Rukiga District Speaker, Hon. Oscar Akampurira, has officially opened the FUFA Beginners Referees Course with strong commendation for the inclusion of female participants.

Hon. Akampurira, while officiating the opening ceremony, highlighted the transformative power of involving women in all aspects of the beautiful game.
“Having women involved in such training will help us as the district to motivate the young females that they can do better the same way men do. The President has entrusted many women in big offices; talk of the Parliamentary Speaker, the Prime Minister. That clearly shows that women can do what men can do,” Oscar said.
The Speaker emphasized that beyond fair play on the pitch, female participation in sports like football is a major catalyst for community health, inspiration, and exposure for young girls.
Rukiga District Football Association Chairman, Mr. Namara Antelo, confirmed that the training will drastically increase the number of professional referees in the region.
He attributed this opportunity to the district’s rising football profile, with its teams now competing at multiple national levels including the Big League and the 3rd, 4th, and 5th divisions.
“Hosting the FUFA President and now this referees’ course is a direct result of our favorable participation at all levels of Ugandan football. This training is essential to grow our pool of qualified match officials here,” Antelo stated.
The course, running from Monday, December 8th to Friday, December 12th, is under the coordination of Mr. Gilbert Ngyendo, the Head of Referees for the Kigezi Sub Region under FUFA.
The curriculum is designed to build a strong foundation, focusing on essential skills, in-depth knowledge of the laws of the game, and the professional standards required for the next generation of match officials.
