KISORO, UGANDA – The aspiring Member of Parliament for Kisoro Municipality, Hon. Dr. Leo Mfitimana, has committed to a relentless fight against poverty and youth unemployment by establishing and protecting income-generating projects.

The independent candidate made the declaration during his official campaign launch in Gatovu village, Hospital Ward, which drew thousands of enthusiastic voters from several villages.

Addressing the crowd, Dr. Mfitimana outlined his vision centered on practical, community-based projects.

He emphasized that initiatives like piggery, tailoring, and poultry farming are key to generating better household incomes, but only if they are properly protected and cared for by the beneficiaries.

“Piggery, tailoring, and poultry are keys to unlocking better incomes, but they must be protected and cared for by the people. My firm belief is that once every youth is involved in such projects, unemployment will reduce,” Mfitimana said.

His plan builds upon a foundation of similar projects launched earlier this year between May and July, during the preparation period for the NRM primary elections in the municipality.

The aspiring legislator also issued a warning to leaders he accused of discouraging youth from participating in prosperity-building initiatives.

Furthermore, he extended an invitation to villages that have not yet benefited from any projects, urging them to form groups to ensure they are included in his development agenda.

The massive turnout was bolstered by the unified support of Local Council One (LC1) chairpersons from the attending villages of Gatovu, Kasemisego, Kabaya, Bigina, Nyamirima, Chintare, and Nyaruyaga.

The Local Council Chairpersons unanimously endorsed Dr. Mfitimana as essential for development and urged residents to safeguard the new projects aimed at alleviating poverty.

The event was marked by a palpable sense of optimism, as residents expressed their support for a candidate they believe offers a tangible path out of poverty through direct investment in their skills and enterprises.
