KISORO, UGANDA – The crisis at Ruko Primary School, where pupils and teachers share latrines and learn in dilapidated classrooms, has broken into the political arena following a public appeal to area legislators.

Dinah Nyirarukundo, a teacher at the school, delivered a stark account of the institution’s condition, revealing it has never received a government-constructed building since its establishment in 2002.
She described a deplorable situation where teachers share toilets with pupils, classrooms lack windows and doors, and a critical shortage of staff, thus appealing to the Legislator for the school’s transformation.

He orchestrated a live, on-the-spot phone call to the District Education Officer, Emmanuel Mwunvaneza, demanding immediate solutions for the deteriorating school.
The DEO, Mwunvaneza, who responded via phone, acknowledged the problem and assured the public that the government would “consider ways to develop the school.”
Nizeyimana also pledged support for women and youth groups to foster development, concluding with a direct appeal for votes in the 2026 general elections.
