RUKIGA, UGANDA – The NRM’s Eng. Asiimwe Jonard Akiiki has sounded the rallying cry, tasking party flag bearers with a critical mission: to directly mobilize the masses and drive enrollment into the government’s poverty eradication schemes.

Akiiki, currently the NRM Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda, delivered this message over the weekend while addressing a gathering of NRM flag bearers and leaning independents at Satellite Hotel in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District.
He emphasized that the ruling NRM government has established numerous avenues for citizens to engage in income-generating activities, but their success hinges on effective local leadership and public motivation.
“The government has for years introduced different programs generally meant to get people out of poverty lanes like the Parish Development Model (PDM), Wealth Creation, EMYOOGA, and NAADS, to mention but a few. All these are good, but people need to be motivated to use them fruitfully,” Eng. Akiiki stated.
He identified these initiatives as primary engines for improving household livelihoods but stressed that their existence alone is not enough, placing the responsibility on local leaders to ensure communities understand, access, and utilize them effectively.
Eng. Asiimwe Jonard Akiiki further challenged NRM flag bearers to articulate a clear vision for their leadership, ensuring their purpose for seeking office translates into genuine community benefit once elected.
“Stand with a vision for why you are yearning to become leaders so that your term of office, if trusted by the electorate, is beneficial to the community,” he advised.
The engagement also featured aspiring leaders like Hon. Mable Size, who called on the NRM government to expand its focus by empowering school dropouts with practical, technical skills.
“I urge the NRM government to focus on empowering those who could not finish their formal education. By providing technical skills in fields like tailoring and carpentry, we can give them the tools to earn a living and become productive citizens,” Hon. Size said.
She further recommended that such individuals be prioritized in government service delivery and distribution programs to ensure they are not left behind in national development efforts.
Eng. Asiimwe Jonard Akiiki is currently traversing the entire Western Region to canvass support for the NRM Party presidential aspirant, H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
President Museveni is scheduled to make a strategic visit to the Kigezi Sub-region next week, a key stop on his nationwide presidential campaign tour aimed at consolidating support and engaging directly with local constituents.
His itinerary will also include monitoring the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) program, prompting a series of preparatory activities by NRM leaders in the region.
