The equipment, which arrived in the country the previous night, is a critical part of the Commission’s strategy to enhance the integrity and credibility of the upcoming elections.
Speaking to the media at Entebbe International Airport, Justice Byabakama emphasized that the new technology will be used to biometrically verify each voter before they are issued a ballot paper.
He stated that the process is designed to uphold the principle of “one man, one vote” by preventing multiple voting or impersonation, which strengthens public confidence in democratic exercises by ensuring only registered voters cast a single ballot.
“The deployment of these Biometric Voter Verification Kits is a testament to the Commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, and transparent electoral process,” Justice Byabakama stated.
Julius Mucunguzi, the Uganda Electoral Commission Spokesperson, confirmed that the newly acquired BVVKs will be deployed across all polling stations nationwide.
He said that this initial delivery is part of a larger procurement process to ensure adequate coverage for the 2026 General Elections.
The use of biometric verification is expected to streamline the voting process, reduce disputes related to voter identity, and bolster the overall credibility of the election results.
