Local leaders convened to meticulously strategize on priority projects, aligning their development agenda with a projected budget of UGX 348,040,305.
Emphasizing the direct link between safety and development, Assistant RDC Owembabazi stated that robust security is essential for safeguarding the gains achieved by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
She also took a moment to commend the Central Division leadership for being the first administrative entity in the district to convene a budget conference for the 2026/2027 financial year, setting a proactive precedent.
The Ntungamo Municipality Town Clerk, Mr. Mukobi Silverio Byarufu, assured residents that the municipal council would aggressively advocate for expanded essential services in the coming financial year.
“We will advocate and lobby for water, electricity, and street lights for all areas in the next financial year,” Byarufu pledged.
The Chairman of Central Division, Mr. Robert Mugisha Kanyaate, made a direct appeal to the business community, urging them to fulfill their civic duty by paying taxes promptly.
He revealed that delayed tax payments have been a significant hindrance to the Division’s performance, directly linking full tax compliance to improved service delivery.
“The Division has failed to perform effectively due to delays in paying taxes. I want to charge you to spread the gospel of tax obligation,” he noted.
The Senior Assistant Town Clerk, Ainomugisha Coreta, disclosed that the Division’s local revenue mobilization currently stands at a mere 30% of its projections, describing the figure as “still low.”
She, however, expressed gratitude to the government for its continuous support through programs like the Discretionary Development Equalization Grant (DDEG), the Parish Development Model (PDM), and Emyooga.
She further highlighted key achievements, including the newly equipped Ntungamo Health Centre IV Theatre and the completion of strategic projects like an incinerator and the Kanaahe-Irenga-Kamwesiga Road.
The Central Division budget projections will prioritize the health and education sectors in the upcoming 2026/2027 financial year.
Key plans include recruiting more staff to fill vacant positions and identifying new sources of local revenue to boost the Division’s collection efforts and fund essential services for the community.
