He faced two charges: assault and malicious damage to property, stemming from an incident last week that was captured on CCTV.
Widely circulated footage showed Nsiima slapping Pellan Atuhuririza inside a supermarket and damaging her Infinix smartphone during the altercation.
Despite his lawyer informing the court that the two parties had reached a reconciliation agreement, Magistrate Aisu denied the officer bail.
ASP Nsiima was subsequently sent to Luzira Prison until October 16, 2025, when his case is scheduled to be mentioned again.
The victim, Pellan Atuhuririza, appeared in court alongside her family members as the officer was arraigned, witnessing the proceedings firsthand.
The court’s decision to remand Nsiima, even after a reported reconciliation, is being seen as a strong message that such acts of violence, especially by those in authority, will not be tolerated.
The case has been adjourned, and ASP Nsiima will remain on remand at Luzira Prison for the foreseeable future as the Directorate of Public Prosecutions prepares its evidence.
