KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments in Uganda has vetted the newly appointed Inspector General of Government (IGG), her deputies, and the agency’s committee members.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The nominees vetted by the committee were Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala for Inspector General of Government (IGG), alongside Ms. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe and Dr. Patricia Acan Okiria for the positions of Deputy Inspector General of Government.
The three were vetted alongside Mr. Badru Lubega Wagwa and Mr. Jimmy Okello, both nominated by the President to serve as Members of the Judicial Service Commission.
If approved, Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala will replace Beti Olive Namisango Kamya, whose term ended in July 2025 since her appointment on 16 July 2021.
The closed-door vetting session held today, October 10, 2024, is a standard procedure for the Committee on Appointments, during which lawmakers assess the nominees’ integrity, leadership, professional competence, and overall suitability for the roles.
The IGG office is Uganda’s lead anti-corruption agency, mandated to eliminate corruption, promote good governance, and enforce the leadership code of conduct.
Similarly, the Judicial Service Commission is a key constitutional body responsible for advising the President on the appointment of judicial officers, reviewing their terms of service, and exercising disciplinary control over them.
Following today’s proceedings, the committee is expected to compile a detailed report with its recommendations for submission to the President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for final consideration and action.
