The relief effort saw the distribution of over one ton of posho (maize flour), with each affected household receiving a 10-kilogram bag to address immediate food shortages.
The initiative will provide a stopgap for families in the affected villages of Kyema, Butoha, Kyigabiro, Nzuguto, Busonga, Bugaya, and Nyakihanda, who lost their livelihoods.
During the distribution, Hon. Buturo voiced his deep sympathy for the victims, characterizing the effort as an emergency response to restore hope.
He promised continued support and appealed to the national government to prioritize disaster-hit families in official relief programs.
“There is a critical need for a stronger, more systematic disaster response to protect our families from prolonged hunger and suffering,” Buturo emphasized.
Local leaders, including Local Council Chairperson Tugabirwe Laurance and Bugaya Parish Councilor Hon. Ruth, appreciated the timely intervention but issued a stark warning, calling for more substantial assistance.
“While we deeply appreciate Hon. Cadet’s timely intervention, this is only a first step. We urgently call upon the government and our development partners to provide more substantial assistance, as our people remain in a precarious situation,” the leaders stated.
They cautioned that without additional support, families in Magambo risk falling deeper into a cycle of hunger and poverty as they struggle to recover.
