NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – The Minister of Education and Sports, also the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has lauded institutions of higher learning for their pivotal role in mentoring and skilling Ugandans, making them competitive in the global job market.

Naome Kabasharira, the Member of Parliament for Rushenyi County, during a dual ceremony marking the graduation of 140 students and a fundraising drive for a new library at Rubaare Teachers’ College in Rubaare Town Council, Ntungamo District.
In the speech read on her behalf, Mrs. Museveni emphasized that universities and colleges have evolved into critical hubs for job creation, a trend she urged the nation to fully embrace.
She stressed that their contribution goes beyond academics to instilling practical skills that address both local and international employment demands.
Shifting focus to the graduates, the First Lady issued a strong appeal for integrity, urging them to exhibit a high degree of moral values and accountability as they enter society.
Leading by example, she personally catalyzed the fundraising effort with a substantial contribution of Shs 20 million, a significant injection of capital dedicated solely to the construction of the college’s new library.
The guest of honour, Hon. Naome Kabasharira, used the event as a platform to announce a major sponsorship initiative.
She expressed her commitment to supporting student education through a partnership between Rubaare Teachers’ College and Africa Renewal University.
“In a bid to support education, I pledge to sponsor all students from Rushenyi County who join Rubaare Teachers’ College by contributing to their tuition fees,” Kabasharira declared.
She further praised the college’s director, Mr. Henry Twinamasiko, for establishing the institution, which awards diplomas in primary education and certificates in nursery teaching and vocational studies, calling it a vital asset for the community’s development.
The South Ankole Diocesan Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Nathan Ahimbisibwe, advised both graduates and parents to wholeheartedly embrace education as a cornerstone for future success.
The service and fundraising were led by the Dean of St. Matthew’s Cathedral Kyamate and Bishop’s Commissary, the Very Rev. Canon Joram Akoragye.
In his vote of thanks, the Director of Rubaare Teachers’ College, Mr. Henry Twinamasiko, expressed profound gratitude to the First Lady for honouring the invitation.
He also extended his appreciation to delegations from Africa Renewal University and Makerere University for their presence and support.
The fundraising drive was a resounding success, with over Shs 30 million collected in pledges and cash donations towards the construction of the new library, signaling a strong community commitment to advancing educational infrastructure.
The event highlighted a unified front between government, religious institutions, and local communities in fostering education and skill development as key drivers for national progress.
