Frustration Mounts in Kisoro as Politicians’ Pledges Remain Just Words

Kisoro, Uganda – Vendors at Gatimaba Market and other residents of Kisoro Municipality have expressed frustration with aspiring Members of Parliament over unmet pledges to improve market infrastructure and town development.

The discontent was voiced during a joint campaign rally held on Wednesday at Seseme Playground, where voters recalled unfulfilled commitments made during a fundraising event in March this year.

During a fundraiser at Gatimaba Market for murram laying and public toilet construction, several parliamentary aspirants made financial pledges, but residents say none have been honored.

Emmanuel Maniraguha was singled out for failing to fulfill his pledge of one million shillings toward the Gatimaba Market project.

Sam Byibesho faced criticism for not implementing promised programs targeting youth, women, and water access in Kisoro town.

Dr. Leo Mfitimana was questioned about delays in issuing Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT) certificates and the exclusion of some villages from his piggery and poultry projects, which have already been rolled out in other areas.

In response to criticism, aspiring MP Sam Byibesho admitted that his development programs for youth, women, and water access stalled following his 2021 election defeat but vowed to restart and expand the initiatives if given another mandate in the ongoing polls.

Dr. Leo Mfitimana stated that over 2,000 DIT certificates are currently being processed and urged patience from villages yet to benefit from his agricultural projects, assuring them that engineers and builders are working to expand the programs.

Amid criticism, aspirant Emmanuel Maniraguha reaffirmed his 1 million shilling pledge for Gatimaba Market upgrades but didn’t specify a timeline for the murram and toilet projects.

With elections approaching, residents say they are tired of empty promises and demand accountability from leaders. Many vow to scrutinize candidates’ track records before casting their votes.
