The driver, Joseph Ziryawulamu, was apprehended on June 14, 2025, operating a heavily loaded vehicle, UAN 422X, traveling from Kampala to Bwera Mpondwe Border Town in Kasese District.

According to the Rwenzori East Regional Police spokesperson, SP Nelson Tumushime, Ziryawulamu was caught operating a motor vehicle in a manner that posed a danger to other road users.

The Regional Traffic Officer for Rwenzori East Region-Kasese, SP Onono George, confirmed that Ziryawulamu contravened Code 6 of the Road and Safety Act (as amended) and was fined 200,000 shillings for the offense, which requires drivers to operate their vehicles in a manner that does not endanger other road users.

SP Onono emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic and road safety regulations, warning that drivers who flout these rules risk being apprehended and prosecuted.

“Any driver who contravenes Code 6 will pay a fine of 200,000 shillings as provided for in the Road and Safety Act as amended,” SP Onono stated.

SP Nelson Tumushime further urged all drivers, motorists, and pedestrians to strictly follow traffic and road safety regulations to avoid being apprehended and prosecuted.

“We continue to appeal to drivers, motorists, and pedestrians to strictly adhere to the Traffic and Road Safety Regulations lest they risk being apprehended and prosecuted in Courts of Law,” said SP Nelson Tumushime.

He added that the police in Kasese District are committed to ensuring that all road users adhere to the rules of the road to prevent accidents and promote safety.
