Kisoro, Uganda – The National Unity Platform (NUP) chairman for Kisoro District, Albert Tugume, has strongly condemned the Uganda Police Force for blocking the launch of the party’s youth elections.

The launch, scheduled for Monday, April 28, 2025, at the NUP headquarters in Makerere Kavule, was halted by police, citing concerns over a planned youth protest vote.

In a statement, police notified the organizers and concerned parties that the event would not be permitted from which Tugume expressed disappointment over the development, stating that the meeting was intended to organize elections for youth and LC1s.

He noted that they are waiting for further guidance from headquarters and security clearance to proceed with their activities.

Tugume also condemned the recent abduction of NUP supporters by security personnel, highlighting the case of Eddie Mutwe, the party president’s bodyguard, who was abducted on Sunday evening in Kiwango village, Mukono District.

Tugume alleged that abductions are being used to intimidate NUP supporters and hinder their progress ahead of the 2026 general elections.

He warned supporters to be cautious while carrying out their duties, including mobilizing people for the upcoming elections.

Tugume’s remarks underscore the tensions between the NUP and security agencies, with the party accusing the government of using intimidation tactics to suppress political opposition.
