Murder in Rukungiri: Police Investigate Brutal Killing of Local Resident

Rukungiri, Uganda – The territorial police in Rukungiri have launched a manhunt for three suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a 45-year-old man in Rukungiri district, whose body was found with injuries and bruises.

The deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Saturday, a resident of Matebe cell, Kyamakanda ward, Buyanja town council, and an employee of Baryamujura Thomas.

The suspects, who are also residents of the same address, have been identified as Ayebare, Posiano, and Gorrette, who are accused of assaulting the victim with sticks and bricks on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Omuyanja cell, Kyamakanda, Buyanja Sub County.

According to some witnesses, they overheard the suspects discussing their plan to flee the scene before the police arrival, and the motive behind the murder has not yet been established.

The Kigezi police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that the police were notified, a case of murder was opened at Buyanja Police Station, the scene of crime was visited and documented.

He added that the deceased’s body was conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Centre III pending postmortem examination to establish the possible cause of death.

“Our police officers in Rukungiri are investigating a murder case after the body of Saturday Emmanuel, an employee of Baryamujura Thomas, was found with injuries and bruises at Biguri Trading Centre. Three suspects, Ayebare, Posiano, and Gorrete, were heard assaulting the victim and are currently on the run. Efforts are underway to apprehend them.” Said Maate Elly.

Maate further confirmed that inquiries into the matter are underway, with efforts being made to apprehend and prosecute the suspects.
