The initiative aims to support communities in protecting and conserving wildlife, climate change, and natural resources.

During a stakeholders’ meeting on Monday held at Kyarumba Catholic Parish, Kyarumba Town Council in Kasese District, WWF Uganda handed over UGX 300 million to three women’s groups in Rubirizi and Kasese districts.

The benefiting groups include Kyankwanzi Bakyara Tukorere Hamwe Bika Oguzee from Kicwamba Sub-County, Rubirizi, which received UGX 106 million, Nyambuko Development Group from Kasese, which received UGX 97 million and Bwitho Men and Women Group, also from Kasese, which received UGX 97 million.

According to Mr. Paul Hatanga, WWF Uganda’s project coordinator, the funding aims to prioritize and strengthen community resilience to the effects of climate change.

“The World Wide Fund for Nature in Uganda has committed to supporting successful groups and vulnerable communities that have risked their potential to protect the environment.” Paul Hatanga noted.

The Communication Officer of WWF Uganda, Mr. Happy Ali, confirmed that the organization’s strategic plan focuses on protecting biodiversity, reducing the human footprint, and promoting sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.

“The World Wide Fund for Nature in Uganda Uganda’s objectives include stopping the degradation of the planet’s natural environment and building a future where humans live in harmony with nature,” said Happy Ali.

The Chairperson of Kyankwanzi Bakyara Tukorere Hamwe Group, Madam Asimwe Monica, expressed gratitude to WWF Uganda for the support, stating that the funding will help their group grow and enlarge their business and marketing activities.

Mr. Mulongo Esawo, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Rubirizi, appreciated WWF Uganda for supporting the community in getting out of poverty.

Esawo further advised the beneficiaries to use the resources wisely and ensure sustainable use of natural resources for future generations.
