Deputy IGG Emphasizes Crucial Role of Prison Officers in Promoting Ethical Leadership and Accountability

Kampala, Uganda – Deputy Inspector General of Government (IGG), Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, has emphasized the importance of ethical leadership, accountability, and transparency in a recent lecture to prison officers.

Addressing the third intake of the Prisons Intermediate Command and Staff Course, Dr. Okiria highlighted the IGG’s role in promoting good governance and preventing corruption.

Dr. Okiria focused on the Leadership Act, 2002, explaining its key provisions and the mechanisms available to enforce the Leadership Code, including investigations and asset declarations.

She stressed that prison officers play a crucial role in upholding integrity and urged them to be exemplary leaders, adhering to the highest ethical standards.

Dr. Okiria emphasized the importance of ethical leadership in promoting good governance and preventing corruption this charging officers to adhere to the highest ethical standards, ensuring accountability and transparency in their actions.

The IGG aims to strengthen the criminal justice system, promote humane treatment, and ensure legal and human rights compliance by promoting ethical leadership and accountability.
