Interpol Deputy Boss Launches Training for Officers on Crime Management

KAMPALA-UGANDA: Interpol’s Deputy Director SCP SSewanyana Yusufu has a launched four-day training program on crime management for the Police and UPDF at Protea Hotel, Kampala.

The function held Wednesday and attended by the 21 selected officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force -UPF and Interpol is focused on enhancing skills of Plice officers on Interpol policing capabilities, particularly in investigating sexual crimes.

During the launch SCP SSewanyana , emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities to combat crimes and acquiring practical skills to handle crimes effectively, especially given the officers’ roles at border points.

He disclosed that the training sponsored by the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office under Project Soteria, is aimed at strengthening law enforcement’s capacity to investigate, prosecute, and arrest offenders.

ABOUT INTERPOL

The International Criminal Police Organization commonly known as Interpol is an intergovernmental organization with 196 member countries. The organization helps the National and other security agencies in combating crime by offering a range of technical and operational support and enabling them to share and access data on crimes.

In each country, an INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) provides the central point of contact, run by national police officials and usually sits in the government ministry responsible for policing.

Interpol offers investigative support such as forensics, analysis, and assistance in locating fugitives around the world.  They also provide training and expertise to support national efforts in combating crimes such as terrorism, cybercrime, organized crime, financial crime and anti-corruption.
