Dr. Silvia Arinaitwe, Launches a Keep Rukiga Green campaign.

RUKIGA: Over 3,000 tree Species have been distributed to Schools and Churches to promote environmental sustainability under Campaign “Keep Rukiga Green” in Rukiga District.

The initiative was introduced on Saturday during a one day teacher’s workshop held at Bukinda Primary Teachers’ College PTC aimed at prioritizing quality education within the District, Organized by the Uganda Allied Health Examinations Board UAHEB and the Uganda National Examinations Board – UNEB in partnership with Rukiga District Education Department supported by Dr. Silvia Arinaitwe.

Representing Dr Silvia Arinaitwe at the Workshop Ms. Kyarisiima Moreen, confirmed to this reporter that the trees species distributed, include fruit trees varieties like mangoes, jackfruits, guavas, and several other bush trees that are to be planted at all schools and churches.

“Today’s initiative is about ensuring the well-being of our children and preserving our natural environment,” Moreen stated during the launch.

Kyarisima Moreen further emphasized Dr. Sylvia’s commitment to supporting students with essential scholastic materials, including mathematical sets, pens, and success cards, for their upcoming Final Exams as it has been in the past year.

She urged teachers to emphasize quality education and expressed gratitude for their hard work, noting that Rukiga District achieved the best results in the 2023 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) , merging the best in the whole Kigezi sub-region.

The workshop mobilizer and head of facilitators Dr. Muhumuza Wilson said that the workshop was designed to improve classroom performance thus applauding Dr. Sylvia for being a goal-oriented leader, with her initiatives meant to help the well-being of citizens within the District.

Various topic facilitators including; Dausson Mugarura an SST Teacher, Brian a Mathematics Teacher and Twinomugisha Alex a Science Teacher shared their insights during the workshop thus urging colleagues to stay updated on new PLE questioning formats and accommodate different student behaviors.

Twinomugisha Alex, a Science facilitator, emphasized the importance of critical thinking in teaching, citing an example of a dice to illustrate how teachers should encourage analytical thought in their students.

Mr. Nkwasibwe Josephat, head teacher of Waceba P/S, Madam Tesiime Agnes, a teacher at Ryabirengye Primary School, Namanya Denis a Deputy Headteacher at Kihanga Boys P/S and Tweheyo Edward from Muhanga Modern P/S appreciated the organizing team for providing such trainings pledging to improve schools performances.

Teachers further received the ‘Keep Rukiga Green’ initiative, seeing it as a crucial step in controlling soil erosion and preserving the natural environment.

The workshop concluded on a positive note, with each teacher receiving six tree species to plant, re-enforcing their commitment to the “Keep Rukiga Green” initiative and the health of their community.
